Mt.Gox

What is Mt.Gox?

Mt.Gox was a cryptocurrency exchange which operated between 2010 and 2014. It was the world’s largest bitcoin exchange at the time and handled the majority of global bitcoin transactions. On February 2014, Mt.Gox filed for bankruptcy protection after it reported that 850,000 bitcoins were stolen and lost, worth around $450 million at the time. This led to the collapse of the exchange and resulted in the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of bitcoins.
